How Many Tiles Do I Need?

When applying thatch tiles, you do so in layers, beginning at the bottom of the roof and working your way up in 300 mm increments.

The thatch's bottom layer, or 'eaves,' (The eaves are the edges of the roof which overhang the face of a wall) is made up of Standard Tiles these are used in each layer of the roof until you reach the top layer.

Use Heavy Tiles for the top layer (last layer before the top tiles). These are intended to fan out while maintaining a defined bottom edge; they will appear the same to the Standard Tile but will have a subtle green string close to the clips of the tile. The Top Cone, or Ridge Tile and End Cap, is applied at the peak or ridge of the thatch, depending on the shape of your roof.

Corner Tiles are required to fit around 90-degree corners if your roof is square or has very pronounced hips. When calculating your requirements, these take the place of one-third of a tile from your total square meterage.

Allow for 3.5 tiles per m square. Add 200mm over hang to your roof joists if you don't have thatch to measure from.

Feel free to email us photos of your structure and measurements as precisely as possible if you would like us to estimate how many you require, our email is sales@sunlightforest.co.uk
The diameter should be measured from the bottom of the thatch on one side to the bottom of the thatch on the other, keeping in mind that you are measuring the thatch and not the roof structure.
